I normally will not visit a food centre at 2pm but because Rosy & Nora opens only at that hour, I had to accommodate to their timing.

I am there to try something new called the "ball kentang" ($3.50).

When I arrived at the stall, there were two ladies - presumably Rosy and Nora themselves - inside busy churning out roti john and deep frying popiah to cater to the demands of the afternoon crowd.

When I first heard about it, I thought it was just begedil in soup. What can be so special about that?

As it turns out, the ball kentang is much bigger than my fist clenched. The ball sits in a bowl of what seemed like onion soup to me which is filled with generous servings of onions, cucumber and fried shallots.

When I tried to lift the ball up for a video, the entire thing just falls apart, exposing the ground beef hidden inside.

The soup is way too peppery for my liking but the kentang and ground beef is quite okay. There are some potato cubes hidden in the mashed potato so it provided some texture.

I finished most of the kentang and ground beef but there's still a lot of onions and soup left which gets jelak after a few mouthfuls.

Another hot item on their menu is the roti john ($3.50). While waiting for my order, I saw stacks of buttered French loaves waiting for their turns to sizzle on the griddle.

I waited for about five minutes before I received my roti john which was served on this cute orangey plate.

Sandwiched within the roti is mostly egg and diced onions. I am not sure what meat - whether beef or mutton - is used here because it wasn't stated. They are pretty generous with the egg though I can't say the same with the ground meat.

Well, at least it isn't too greasy.

This is a basic, no-frills roti john served without any mayonnaise or chili sauce drizzled on it. Chili sauce, however, is available on the side as a dip which has quite an interesting flavor of savory and sweet that goes very well with the bread.

Of course, you are welcomed to add cheese if you are willing to pay a little more.
