Guang Fa Laksa @ Havelock Road Cooked Food Centre

The uncle behind Guang Fa Laksa at Havelock Road Cooked Food Centre is real friendly but oddly quiet who uses the thumbs-up sign to acknowledge you.

You have to specify if you want cockles because if you don't, you will not be given any and there will be a difference in pricing. The price for laksa without cockles is $2.50 and $3 while with cockles is $3 and $4 respectively.

What is laksa without cockles? Without a doubt, I had to order a bowl with the shellfish.

My $3 bowl of laksa came with a generous portion of thick bee hoon topped with the usual bean sprouts, fish cake, tau pok, laksa leaves and of course, the all important cockles.

I do not like the coconut milk in my laksa to be too lemak-y (eg, Depot Road Zhen Shan Mei Laksa) and with too much dregs (eg. 928 Yishun Laksa).

The broth here is perfect for me. It is sufficiently savory, mildly spicy and the coconut milk is not too rich. Guang Fa's laksa is exactly how I love mine to be.

This laksa does not come with hard boil egg but it is not an issue for me. My only gripe is that the cockles are on the puny side so there is no enjoyment of feeling the shellfish bursting in your mouth.

I love the slurpy thick bee hoon with the laksa broth. Shiok!

Guang Fa Laksa is pretty affordable and delicious. I wish it is nearer to me so I do not have to travel so far for another bowl!
