Huang Da Fu is one of the more popular noodle stall at Commonwealth Crescent Market & Food Centre.

Run by a young couple, the stall serves minced meat noodle (bak chor mee) that come in three sizes ($2.70/$3.50/$4.50).

Their cheapest bowl, at $2.70, is the most affordable I have ever seen. I think bak chor mee at most places starts from $3. I decided to go for the medium bowl and the lady who took my order suggests adding on their delicious fish dumplings (4 pieces for $1).

After collecting payment, the guy immediately gets to work; blanching the noodles and putting the bowl together.

My bowl of bak chor mee comes with a substantial amount of mee kia and a generous serving of ingredients such as slivers of mushroom, minced pork, pork slices, pork ball, pig's liver and not forgetting my added fish dumplings. My favorite ingredient has to be the pork slices which are really fresh and tender.

The mee kia is slightly soft but the noodle sauce blew me away. The sourness of the black vinegar and spiciness of the chili is on point without overpowering. The chili, especially, is quite tok gong.

Condiments such as spring onions, cut chili, black vinegar and pork lard are placed outside the stall so you can help yourself to it. Their pork lard is fresh and crunchy with no stale oil smell.

So, are the fish dumplings any good?

The skin, made with fish meat is chewy and comes with a sticky mouthfeel while the minced pork wrapped within simply bursts with juices.

I do not like fish dumplings that much but this is really worth the dollar.

The portions at Huang Da Fu are generous, ingredients used are fresh, kept me full and most importantly, tastes good. I am surprised that there is not much reviews about them. They ought to be one of the better ones around but has slipped under the radar.
